Discover the world with me through The World Notebook
My name is Karina.
I am a 23-year-old English instructor from the United States. I have loved traveling for as long as I can remember. Thanks to my dad’s job, my family and I traveled quite a lot during my childhood. We lived in a few different states and in Japan as well. However, it wasn’t until I entered university that I experienced traveling alone for the first time. When I was older and deciding what to do with my life, I made the decision that travel would be a key factor in my career goals.
Also, something else I wanted was a job with purpose. I wanted to know that I was passing along something meaningful and contributing to a productive and more unified society. It took me a long time to decide what that was. Finally, near the end of my university career, I realized that it was teaching English.
Language is the ultimate connecting factor in any society. It’s how people communicate and build relationships with one another. While my dreams of someday becoming a polyglot seem a little blurry at the moment, I can speak English fluently and, back then, I realized that I could help others connect to billions of English speakers worldwide. It was possible that I could make a contribution while doing something I love – traveling!
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.”- Mark Twain
Why did I decide to create The World Notebook?
There are a few reasons why. For starters, I wanted to document my adventures along the way. This way, I’ll forever have a keepsake of my youth, my dreams, and my adventures. Two, I wanted to share this keepsake with my friends, family, future offspring, and anyone else who has a passion for travel! Some things are just worth sharing! And three, I hope that my blog can share the beauty in this world; not just the beauty in its landscapes, but also in its people and cultures.
Most of us only ever get to look out of such a small window. We only see what’s in front of us, what’s familiar to us, and I don’t want to be one of those people. In order to appreciate this beautiful gift that we’ve been given, I hope to see everything that’s out there. We have a finite amount of time on this planet, so I hope to break through that window and see as much of this world as I can.
So, welcome to The World Notebook. My notebook. My travels, my memories, and what I’ve learned along the way. I’m sure it won’t be a perfect journey, but when is any journey worth taking ever easy?
